About the Arts Society

The Arts Society Hamburg was founded in 1987 to stimulate understanding, enjoyment and care of the arts, and to promote a greater awareness of our international cultural heritage.

The Arts Society Hamburg is a member society of the The Arts Society in the UK from which it derives a great deal of advisory support. The Arts Society celebrated its 50th birthday in 2018 and there are now over 380 societies in the UK, mainland Europe, Australia and New Zealand. In all they represent a world membership of more than 90,000. The Arts Society Mainland Europe comprises 13 societies, including Hamburg and new ones are in the process of opening in Majorca and Portugal.

Patron of our Society is the Honorary British Consul in Hamburg.

The Arts Society Hamburg season starts in September and finishes in June, during which time there are seven/eight illustrated lectures in English on a wide range of subjects such as art, architecture, music, furniture, silver, china and ceramics etc. Outings to places of historical interest in the vicinity of Hamburg, weekend Study Days and visits to local art galleries and museums are also organised.  We also arrange cultural tours to neighbouring countries.

The Arts Society Magazine is sent out from London four times a year to all members and contains articles on a variety of art and culture and the latest events.

Regular mails and newsletters are sent out by us to keep you informed of all our forthcoming lectures and events.
